THE RAGE MONTHLY: THE ADVENTURES OF JIZZONA STRAYNGER!
The Adventures of Jizzona Straynger: The Rage Monthly – July, 2011
June gloom has come and gone, and now it’s time to heat it up! July is all sorts of bangs from sea to shining sea, and not just because it’s when we celebrate our Nation’s birth. Nothing says America pride on the 4th of July like firing of Chinese fireworks. That would be like celebrating Black History month by organizing a cross-burning cookout. I’m just saying, isn’t there something wrong with that? At any rate, July 4th is one of my favorite holidays, and I’ll tell you why a little later. Before we get to all the fun in the sun events in July, let’s reflect on the fabulous times we had in June!
The event of the month was hands down LA Pride. LA Pride was filled with so much fun and booze that I almost don’t remember much of the festivities, however, pictures are helpful in bringing those memories back. The weekend-long celebration brought an estimated 400,000 people out to celebrate the41st Annual Pride event, which started off Friday night with theDyke March, with over 1,200 participants marching and chanting, “We are lesbians. We are fabulous. We are here to stay” and “Lesbians rock.” LA Pride capped off Sunday with aparade down Santa Monica Boulevard with Johnny Weir as Grand Marshal and the Pride Festival in West Hollywood Park.
There was a tremendous response from some VIP’s in attendance related to the recent gay bashing from comedian Tracy Morgan. Rodney Scott, president of Christopher Street West, which puts on the parade and festival each year, took the time to condemn comedian Morgan’s recent homophobic rants. During a comedy show in Nashville, Morgan said he would stab his son if he told him he was gay. “There is no comedy in threatening to stab your son,” said Scott. “All those who say we don’t matter, we don’t count, ladies and gentlemen, we do.” Margaret Cho, who was honored by CSW with the Morris Kight Lifetime Achievement Award, also spoke about Morgan’s rant, saying, “We see how much homophobia pervades our culture with all of the things that have happened in the past week. What I’m so proud of is our community coming together and demanding an apology which came very, very quickly.” Of course you all know by now that I don’t hold back in the offensive department, but I do think standing up against violence, even if in a comedy act, is the answer to moving our LGBT agenda forward. On a side note, kudos to NYC!!! Woot! The Empire State Building never looked so fabulous as it did on June 25 all painted up in the colors of the rainbow!
For those of you who have been following me for awhile, you know I’m a corn-fed gal from the great State of Oklahoma! I had the honor of participating in the LGBT Gay Pride Celebration in Oklahoma City on June 25 & 26. I had such a great time of seeing long-time friends, former teachers (talk about awkward turtle), and meeting new friends in the community. Oklahoma, surprisingly, has a vibrant, flourishing gay community. Oklahoma City’s Pride Festival was headlined by The Pointer Sisters! The sisters were fierce and fabulous, a great addition to this year’s OKC Pride! The LGBT Pride in Oklahoma City, the largest in the state, has taken this year’s pride event to the next level. All proceeds for this years Pride are going to Oklahoma’s first ever LGBT Health Center to improve the lives and health of the LGBT community in Oklahoma. As a fellow Oklahoman, I’ve never been so proud of my community and my State as I am now. Go Oklahoma!
Speaking of Pride, we’ve got another great Pride coming up in San Diego on July 16 & 17. Margaret Cho, Salt N Pepa, and more will be in attendance this year entertaining the masses! Be on the lookout for San Diego Pride’s ONLY hot dog vendor, The Mexi-Dog! You’ll be sure to see me serving up the best tasting, hottest, hot dogs San Diego has ever seen!
Well, as promised, the reason I love the 4th of July so much. First, no other holiday offers the chance to booze it up like the 4th of July. The 4th of July is the only holiday when all the hotties are prancing around in their short-shorts and sexy trunks. On the 4th of July, we get to blow shit up, that alone is pretty amazing, even if they are Chinese products. The 4th of July is one of the only holidays that allows those of us in the LGBT community to celebrate true Pride. By that I mean, look at all the other countries in the world that kill the gays just for being themselves. We are truly blessed here in the USA, even if we don’t all have marriage equality at this moment. Finally, I love the 4th of July because all the gays in Orange County head to 7th Street Beach, a private and exclusive beach in Laguna Beach where the gays, and gay supporters chill the entire weekend. If you have yet to experience 7th Street Beach in Laguna, find a local and have them point you in the right direction. This 4th of July weekend, I’ll be celebrating with my besties on 7th Street Beach with all the hotties. You won’t want to miss this beach day, where all the sexy OC boys will be!
